Two years ago I decided to have one year of food supply in my pantry. Some items expired in the pantry months later.  I decided to adjust my staples and the quantity to purchase based on my family needs and wants. Every year, I evaluate my process of stocking up and make adjustments.

Our food pantry is stocked with products we use on daily basis. Unless there is sales for fruit, or meat, we don’t need to go to the grocery store for food other than milk. I cook from my pantry and freezer.

Usually, I stocked for food staples at the end of the year to the extent of savings put aside from my food budget.  More often I fall short and would continue to stock up every month thereafter. Besides purchasing staples, we shop sales on food that goes on sale throughout the year.

At the end of March, we stocked up on some staples I wanted to add to the pantry.

We also purchased ice cream, cereals, frozen peas, and sausages which are not in the list above.

The item named “bread-milk- sandwich bread” is the amount set aside for these items this month. Milk was on sale for $0.99/gal. We purchased 4 gallons and I set $10-15 on the side for the rest of this month.

The same category buys sandwich bread on sale which we freeze and use for sandwiches and herbs buttered bread.

Generally summer vegetables go on sale in summer and I stock up on them but this week sweet corn was on sale 10 for $1.

We purchased $11 and I removed the husks and froze them whole.

The freezer bags would be used to freeze produce purchased sale and our garden harvest.

Washing soda and borax are used as our laundry powder and cleaning product. I have enough for most of the year.

The unbleached flour is for one month supply.

We have enough supply of rice and bean to last us a while and I would replenish the rice supply as it gets low.

For the next following months, I would not be buying staples much.  My pantry is set for months of food supply.

I would be saving most of the food budget for end year purchase while spending some of it on vegetables that would go on sale.
