I use 13’’ * 9’’ baking dish for my pies as my family love pies and I make a big batch at once.

Organic apples I purchased for $0.77/lb. were going bad after few weeks and I decided to make apple pies with the remaining. I didn’t have enough for a big batch of apple pie and added raspberries and blueberries I have in my freezer that came from my in laws’ garden.

Food Mill

Direction

Make the pie crust and while it is baking in the oven, start the filling.

Put the quartered apples with core and skin in a pot with ½ cup of water.

Bring to a boil. Cover and cook until they are soft.

Pass through a food mill to puree.

Return the apple sauce back to the stove.

Add ½ cup to ¾ cup of sugar.

Bring to a boil.

Reduce heat and cook for 2 minutes. Set aside.

Add the raspberries and blueberries to another pot.

Bring to a boil.

Add ½ cup to ¾ cup sugar.

Add ½ cup of flour to ½ cup of water and mix in a bowl and add to the pot.

Stir quickly to dissolve the flour mixture.

Cook the fruit  for about 3- 5 minutes.

Pour both the apple sauce and the berries sauce simultaneously from opposite sides in the baking dish on the pie crust. You would have apple pie in one side and the berries pie in the other.

Bake in a preheated oven at 300 degree F for 1 hour.

Remove from the oven and set aside to cool for about 1 hour and put in the fridge to cool completely before covering it. Serve cold.
