Sweet corn was on sale the last day of August. I finished August Budget but didn’t withdraw money for September expenses. We just used what we saved in August to make the purchase .There were some fraudulent activities with our bank account and while we sort it out, I only wanted to spend on staples I need or that were on sale this month. . I was out of flour. We purchased 5 bags. With flour, I make corn bread, biscuit, pizza, and pancake. It is important for me to have flour on hand. I was out olive oil but I just used meat fat to cook. I made popcorn with coconut oil and I made some batches with rendered lard.
I removed the corn off the cob and froze in zip bags. I put corn from 6 cobs in each gallon zip bag. I estimated that if I cook corn once a week, that would be 52 times in a year. 6 corn ears would be used a week. If corn is on sale 6 corns for $1, $52 worth of sweet corn would be enough to serve that vegetable once week for a year. I don’t serve it once a week and I don’t have 52 gallon bags of corn in my freezer. However, it is a way to know how much of that vegetable I could stock up on or how much I should save for it.
Week 2:
Fruit: $35.21 with a discount of $ 52.42
Grapes $0.88/ lb. (Fresh Thyme): $9.87—Discount of $34.83
Apples $0.88/lb. (Fresh Thyme): $25.34 Discount of $17.59
I used the grape to make salad. The kids took it to school for their snack on a daily basis. They ate it at home after dinner or for snack. We ran out grape half way through the week.
We eat less of the apples at the moment as they last in the fridge. We eat more of the fruits that are perishable.
