Happy Thanksgiving 2020! We made the following grocery purchases prior to 2020 Thanksgiving Celebration

Build Your Food Supply on Budget

We made some purchases during the third and fourth week of November 2020 using our weekly grocery ads. We also reflected on dishes we might make for thanksgiving and included few groceries items on our grocery list and purchased them.

Sweet Potatoes stock up for winter 2020

80 Lbs. of sweet potato at $0.38/Lb.: $30.40

How to Stock Up on Bread on Sale - How to Store Bread

Bread – 36 /bag French Steak Rolls was on sale and we purchased 3 bags of them to freeze.

I like to have bread in the freezer for quick dinner meals. I also like to have flour in my pantry of my homemade sourdough bread. If I brown 2 lbs. of ground beef or pork, add flour and broth, and let it cook for 10 minutes to 15 minutes, I could bake a frozen bread in the oven and serve sandwich for a quick dinner one evening for instance. I think about meals I could make with a main staple and make sure I have the necessary ingredients for the meal in my pantry or freezer.

4 lbs. Butter at $1.88/lb.: $7.52 the original price was $3.99/lb. We saved over $8.

20 lbs. of ground beef - Build your meat supply on budget

2-10 lbs. of 93% Lean Ground beef at $2.99/lbs.: $60.88

We purchased 2-3 lbs. bag Whole Tilapia and 6 bags of French Fries

Butter stock up for winter use

I like to stock up on butter. I store my butter in the freezer. When I don’t have eggs during winter, I could make biscuit as a part of dinner meals.

Nutritional Value of Sweet Potatoes baked in Skin

Sweet potato is a vegetable high in vitamin A about 8,100 mg according to the instructions on the box it came in.

Thanksgiving Meals – Celebrate Thanksgiving within Budget

Frozen French Fries for 2020 Thanksgiving Celebration
Whole Tilapia Fish for 2020 Thanksgiving Celebration

For Thanksgiving lunch, we might make Fish and fries.

For Thanksgiving dinner, I might bake pork rib and cook fried rice to serve aside.

We would celebrate our 2020 Thanksgiving at home with simple meals we would all enjoy.

How to build your food supply on budget

We took $300 out in November for our grocery budget and we thought early on what we would like to cook for Thanksgiving and made our purchases of the food staples we need to have on hand that generally don’t go on sale.

If you like to set a budget for your groceries, we need to track your grocery expenses for few months to be able to determine how much you spend on groceries. Then set a budget you find reasonable and spend withing that budget. If you usually go over that budget, then you might have set a low budget and might need to adjust it.

Lower Your Grocery Expenses

Shop with grocery ads. If what you purchase goes on sale at some part of the year, save your grocery money to stock up on these staples. Do not pay full price for food staples that go on sale is the key of decreasing your grocery expenses.

Remember, the goal is to decrease your expenses and have some money left from your paycheck to put to work.

As someone said it: If you do not make money in your sleep, you work for every dollar.”

Happy Thanksgiving!
