General Mills Cereals were on sale at Walmart for $0.75 during the first week of January and we purchased 16 boxes.
When you are at home and the kids study online, it is good to have cereals and milk on hand.
For days we don’t have time to cook breakfast, you could serve them cereals and milk.
You could serve dry cereals for snack between meals.
For lunch you could serve cereal and milk.
It is not about healthy food. It is about satisfying your children’s hunger until you are available to put a healthy meal together for the family.
For dinners when a day you don’t feel like they are hungry for a heavy meal, a bowl of cereal and milk might please them.
Our budget for cereal is around $15 a month. We like to stock up on cereals right around back to school time when they are on sale for $0.99/12oz. in a grocery store. We stocked up in 2020 and are low in supply.
The 16 boxes of General Mills Family Size Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch – 19.3 oz cost around $12 well below our monthly cereal budget. They would last more than 1 month.
Build your Food Supply on budget
When stocking up on cereals, purchase different varieties as kids get tired of one same one after a while.
Also, take note of the cereals they enjoy and they ones they don’t care about. That way when you are ready to stock up again, you know the type of cereals your family like and should have in your food pantry.
Our monthly budget is $300 a month for groceries for our family of 5. To build our food supply on a budget, we stock up on grocery staples that go on sales. That save us money which we spend to stock on food and non food staples that don’t go on sale We don’t coupon. We only rely on weekly grocery ads to see what is on sale that we use.

Most importantly choose what your kids like
When selecting cereals to purchase take a look at the fiber count and cereals with dietary fiber of 4 g are great. But it won’t do you any good if your children don’t like them.
