I set the kids summer schedule right before school ended.

I like to draft a schedule that I don’t need to update regularly. It is a daily schedule that my children follow during summer. They follow the same schedule during the school year. They follow the summer schedule on holidays, when school is not in session, and on weekends.

To draft the schedule, I thought about the different activities I wanted the kids to work on over the summer. These activities include studies, crafts, and learning new skills.

In the daily schedule, I listed the activities and allocated both duration and time for each one.

I started the schedule from when they wake up to when they go to bed to make sure I allocate reasonable time to each activity.

I like to keep the time they wake up in the morning, and when they go to bed in the evening the same in summer and during the school year so that their body doesn’t have to adjust to new hours when school starts. Therefore, I thought about when they will wake up when school starts and use that as the starting of their day in summer as well.

Further, I like them to have about 10 hours of sleep at night. Therefore, I plan their bedtime hours in a way to that they can have about 10 hours of sleep in summer as well.

When school starts, I want them to still remember what they learned the previous school year. Therefore, the summer schedule includes reading, writing, math, and drawing.

I didn’t want them to feel like they spent all summer studying therefore, I included in the schedules time for craft and other activities they might be interested in as well as some skills I want them to learn.

I listed some skills as a starting point for them.

From the schedule and the list of activities I listed, I drafted a portion of the shopping list to purchase supplies they can use in performing these activities. I asked them to draft a list of craft supplies they are interested in.

Then I asked them to go to Walmart website and search the price for each one.

Later I set a budget of $100 and asked them to narrow down their supplies to stay within that price range.

At the store, when they picked supplies on their list and I noticed there are bulk versions that might last them longer, I allowed them to choose the bulk size instead.

The summer schedule is not followed to the letter, but it is a guideline to help them stay engaged, active, and expand their knowledge.
