How do I manage being a working mom and entrepreneur?
I like to balance my duties.
I don’t seek excellence in any of my work life balance.
A job requires a lot of our time as well as our family.
I spend a lot of my time on my job and my family and the rest of my time I spend it on our business.
Work on business 1st, family 2nd, and job 3rd.
Even though our business is third in the list of importance, I like to work in our business early in the morning when my energy level is high.
I go to bed early in the evening most of the time and wake up early in the morning.
I shower and spend some time working in the business before 6 am when I wake the kids up to take care of them and get them ready for school.
A long shower in the morning relaxes my muscles, energizes me, and allows me to have quiet time to think and it is a time of the day I have for myself.
Then my husband takes over to take the kids to school and I go to work.
At the end of the day, I am usually exhausted and deal with energized kids. I don’t have the energy to spend a lot of time on our business.
Scheduling working on our business early in the morning when the house is quiet and kids are sleeping allows me to spend the part of the day my energy level is full, on our business, then take care of the family second, and then work for my employer.
In the evening, I cook dinner, clean the house and get the kids ready for bed. If I have some time before bedtime, while I might work for a few businesses related and investments related tasks.
Putting our business first, family second, and job third in terms of what time of my day to allocate toward them allows me to find some time of the day to work on our business every day most of the time.
Be good not perfect
I try to be good at what I do, not perfect. I seek how much of something I need to do that is good enough for me. So that I have time to work on everything that requires my attention.
No after school activities for the kids outside of home
Our kids have craft supplies at home to develop different types of skills. I don’t put them in after school activities. I don’t have time to take them to these activities. I want them to go to bed early to have about 9-10 hours of sleep at night. And I have a business to run plus my full-time job.
I don’t separate family time from business time
I work early in the morning on business tasks that require quiet environments like recording videos.
During the day or evening, I work around the kids while they play nearby. I work on business tasks I could perform in noisy environments. I work in the living room while the kids play, crafts, or watch tv or use their computers.
I work on business while cooking.
I work on the business throughout the day during the weekend while cooking, cleaning, and tending to my children.
Have a weekly business calendar
This allows me to know what to work on in the morning. I pick a task and spend time of it to get it completed instead of working a little bit on multiple tasks and not completing anyone of them.
Have a weekly meal calendar to include simple quick to make dishes you like to cook, and your family like to eat.
Draft a grocery list and shop to stock up your pantry and freezer of ingredients to cook them.
I have a weekly meal calendar and make sure I have ingredients on hand to make these dishes. I like to cook from scratch. But it requires planning ahead to time. We shop for groceries to stock up or pantry and freezers to be able to cook our meals.
I have simple quick meals to make that I like to cook for dinner when there is not a lot of time available before we eat.
Simplify and allocate household duties
My kids are a little older so they can handwash their dishes after they eat, and I don’t need to do that for them anymore. They can clean the table after they are done eating. That allows me to have some time back to perform other household cleaning. They can put their own laundry away.
Have a good time management
Conclusion: How do I balance job, family, and business
