Are you willing to please other people by fear of guilt at the expense of Who you are meant to be?
Parents Guilt trip
My parents live with me now. They complain I don’t talk with them. I don’t want to share my problems with them. They can ask me a question I would answer if it doesn’t cross my boundaries. They complain to me I don’t spend time with them like go shopping with them at the mall, sit in their bedroom talking.
Although they are right, I don’t do any of these things, I have my reasons.
We leave in 1,000 sq ft and I spent time in the kitchen after work. When after work I am in the kitchen cooking dinner, they could start any conversation with me I would answer their questions if it is not about my personal life. They don’t agree. They think I should spend time in their bedroom. I don’t have that time. I have a full time job, I am a wife, mother of 3, and a business woman. I don’t find a lot of time in a day to spend on my business as I would like to. Therefore, I cannot spend time in their bedroom.
Guilt or Regret-Which one are you comfortable with?
In laws Guilt trip
When I graduated with my second master’s degree and couldn’t find a job in 2010, I suggested to my husband that I would look for job in other states where he could transfer to from his job. If I find a job, we will move out of state. He shared that with his mother. she said things like hurting herself if we moved out of state. She tried to bribe us to take $1,000 to fix our problem. My husband refused because he knows I would not like that. I told him that we are adults, and it is our job to provide for our family. We could not just live near his mother and share her wages. I don’t like handout. I am ambitious by nature and have goals to achieve in life. I came in the USA for a better life and would not settle for anything less.
I love both my parents and my mother in-law but providing for my children is more important.
