Nina’s Soap started as a handmade soap business in 2014. During the same year Nina’s Soap blog website (ninasoap.com) was launched to share articles on natural reusable alternative household products including natural oils and butter, cloth napkins, natural soap, and more.

In 2019, Nina’s Soap became a brand of Liberman Consulting L.L.C.  It is owned and managed by the Liberman’s family. Afiavi-Odjounin (Nina) Liberman is an owner, the founder, and the CEO of Liberman Consulting L.L.C. It is located in Ames, Iowa.

I have been making soap since 2012 when I decided to quit using body wash and household cleaning products and switch to more Eco friendly products.

I am originally from Togo, West Africa. I grew up using Marseilles Soap bar for shower and laundry. Back then, I always hand washed my clothes, showered two to three times a day. I had oily face and had acne during my teenage years. I never have cracked hands. I had cracked heels occasionally and glycerin and scrub stone worked just fine. When I moved to the USA in 2004, I started using body wash and remarked that my skin dried out. When I moved to Iowa in 2009, my hand cracked during winter and no lotion or butter seemed to help. To make the matter worse, my two little girls have dry skin also. The youngest two kids have eczema. I was latter diagnosed with eczema after my third child was born. Based on my doctor, eczema could be genetic. My kids could have it from me.

Since I started using my handmade lye soap and showering my kids with it, the cracks in my hands diminished considerably and my oldest daughter skin doesn’t dry out anymore. When she was little, her doctor recommended a special cream which I used for months. When I switched to my natural soap and body butter, her skin turned just fine. As for her younger sister with eczema, her skin showed a lot of improvement over the years. After using my natural soap for her for four years, she no more shows any sign of eczema.

My youngest child show eczema issue during his first 5 years as dry patches at some spots on his legs especially the side he dragged on the floor while crawling during his first year. Over the years the dry patches appearance on his leg decreased.

All the skin problems we face in our house made me start producing my own soap and skin products so that I could have more control over what we put on our skin. I am not making any assumption that my soaps have any skin benefit. You just have to see for yourself. My products are not FDA tested. They are all based on personal research and experience.

When I was expecting my second child, I was drawn to natural products. I quickly realized they could be expensive after I purchased cloth diapers as a alternative to disposable diaper to save money as I struggled  to find a job between 2009 and 2014. I didn’t find a lot of information back then on cloth diapering targeting low income earner. After I purchased few and they arrived, I looked at then and noticed I could sew them myself and that will be the way to save money. I learned sewing in middle and high school. I interned two half summers during my college years at an aunt tailoring shop and was trained to sew a skirt a day for clients. My mother purchased me a mechanical sewing machine my brothers and I used to mend our clothes during these years. After more than a decade of not using a sewing machine, I purchased a sewing machine and researched stores that sell the fabrics I learned through research that are good for diapering. I purchased the fabrics and made cloth diapers for our kids.

Nina’s Soap humble beginnings

Nina’s Soap blog started in 2014 to share my experience and my point of view about making and using natural products to the existing contents in the web. Back then I couldn’t find enough information on the subjects I was looking for. It was a way to add more free information others might look for, just the way other blogs helped me learned what I knew before I started my own experience.

Although our blog was started to share our handmade natural products, our mission has evolved over the years to include our gardening experience, personal finance, cooking recipes, and business management tips that help us create multiple streams of incomes where our jobs are just two of them.

Business Mission

Our goal is to reach our financial independence. We share different ways to save money and different ways to make money to reach your financial independence where you do not depend on your employer to put food on the table for your family.
