I didn’t have egg at home so we purchased 6 dozens.

We smoked the chicken on Sunday July 28, 2019.

My husband purchased them on Saturday. In the evening, I baked them. I grated the chili pepper and mixed with olive oil and chopped winter savory. I salted the chickens and rubbed 10 lbs. of chicken with the chili oil. I baked the chicken in the oven first. I drained the fat to use later. On Sunday, we smoked them using fresh mulberry branches I trimmed from our property on Saturday. For late lunch on Sunday, I served sorrel salad, watermelon, cantaloupe, and smoked spicy chicken. In the evening, I served plain rice, with smoked chicken, and chili oil. To make the chili oil, I grated 2 jalapenos and, chopped some wild thyme. I added the chili, thyme, salt, and extra virgin olive oil to a pan. I boiled for two minutes and served on rice and smoked chicken.

We purchased watermelon few weeks ago from Walmart. We have one left. We still have peaches and 1 bag of grapes in the fridge. We ate all the cantaloupes. On Saturday, we ate early lunch by eating leftover fried rice I made on Friday. Then we went and maintained our investment property. When we came home, I served a big bowl of watermelon and cantaloupe for snack. We all ate that in the afternoon few hours before I cooked dinner. After been under the sun for hours, it was very refreshing to snack on watermelon. I wanted to purchase 6 watermelons this time. But we ran out money in the fruit envelope. So I put two watermelons back. I didn’t want to use meat money for it. We still have fruit at home so we should be fine for the week.

We spent some meat money this week. We spent a total of $14.72 (eggs and chicken). I don’t know how much I saved on egg and chicken. The chicken is not at its lowest price. But I wanted to cook some chicken and stop cooking the ground beef I have. The chicken was cheaper than what the ground beef cost me.

I ran out rolls in the freezer and my husband purchased 4 bags when he saw them in clearance. I used them for sandwiches. I make one sandwich dinner a week. Therefore, I like to have a four bags in the freezer for one month worth.

We spent $13.19 from food budget. We saved $6.36 on the rolls.

We spent $8 on fruit with a discount of $10.72.

The last week of July we spent $35.91 from our grocery budget.

Year to date cost and July Grocery Cost

We spent $232.45 in July including $135.25 cost covered by food budget ($101.60 on food, $31.51 on kids items, and $2.14 on other consumables), $21.44 on meat, and $75.76 on fruit. With our food budget of $375 a month ($200 for food and non-food, $80 for fruit, and $95 for meat), we have left $142.55. I would moved that to saving envelopes before I added the new budget to the envelopes for August. Every month, what we have left from our grocery budget I save it and start the month with a new budget. I used the saved grocery budget to stock my pantry at the end of the month, to purchase clothes for the kids, and to stock up on meat.
