How to Locate the Business Activity Code for your Resell, Private Label, Retail Arbitrage, Drop-shipping, Handmade, or Print on Demand Online Store for Sole Proprietor, LLC, S Corp?
Where do you find the business activity code for your online store?
If you are sole proprietor and would file schedule C for your business
If you are a sole proprietor, go to IRS.gov and search Schedule C form 1040. Click on the instructions for Schedule C and open it. Scroll down to the end of the instructions to locate the Principal Business Activity Code.
If you are an LLC and would file Form 1065
On irs.gov, search Form 1065.
Click on Instructions for Form 1065.
Scroll down in the instructions to close to the end of it to locate the Principal Business Activity Code.
If you are an LLC taxed as an S Corporation and would file Form 1120S
On irs.gov, search Form 1120s.
From the result, click on the instructions for form 1120S.
Scroll down toward the end of the instructions to locate the Principal Business Activity Code.
How to locate the business activity code for online business?
Once you locate the Principal Activity Code, scroll down to Retail Trade.
From there, scroll down paying attention to the subcategories.
You would find Non-Store Retailer at the end of the Retail Trade category.
Read about each code and choose the one that best fit your business model.
What is the Business Activity Code for E-commerce Online Store?
The Non-Store Retailer Business Activity Code # 454110 “Electronic Shopping & Mail-Order Houses” is great for online retail businesses.
The Non-Store Retailer category include 4 Business Activity Codes. You can read about them and choose the one that best suits your business.
If you are an LLC your business code would go on Form 1065 Line or section B on top of the form.
If you are an LLC taxed as an S Corporation, your business activity code would go on Form 1120S Line or section B.
