If you have a full time job, you could and should start a side business where you make money online to supplement your income or save for your retirement. Once your income start generating more than half your full time job, you could start thinking about the possibility of quitting your full time job to a part time to spend more time in your business. Below are few options on how you can generate revenue online.
You don’t need to have a college degree to start your own online business. However, if you have a degree, you could offer consulting in that area of expertise. With so make online classes and courses, you could easily learn how to perform specific tasks and sell your service to others. You could learn on your own through a lot of research without spending any money on courses. There is a lot of free information online to access.
- Web design: Learn how to make your own website and make it for others and local small businesses.
- Affiliate marketing: promote other business products. Pick a niche for your website and promote products related to your niche. There are many affiliate programs to choose from including Amazon Associate, Click Bank, Sale a share, Rakuten. To find the affiliate program for a brand you like or would recommend, type the brand name in google search engine followed by affiliate program. Join an affiliate program and start promoting products you like and would recommend. You don’t have to use a product to promote it. But you have to use a product to review it. You could look for a product with thousands positive reviews on Amazon for instance and promote it on your website. Similarly, list all the products you use around your house and at work that you like and would easily recommend. Look for them on Amazon and promote them in your blog.
- Fiverr: sell digital service. Offer multiple services on Fiverr.com that you could perform very quickly. The price is around $5 but can be set higher.
- Freelance: Upwork: A lot of companies use this website to buy services. Offer your expertise on Upwork for few hundred dollars.
- Shutterstock and Gettyimages: You take pictures and upload them there. If someone purchases one of your pictures, you would get paid. You can take pictures of anything.
- Udemy: Upload your course there and teach something specific like video editing for instance. You can go there to learn something as well. The price is as low as $10. Learn a course there and start your own business by selling a service performed with the expertise you just learned.
- Start your own digital agency or marketing agency: learn a course and start your own agency. Call your local small businesses and suggest to market for them. You charge them $1,000 each more or less and hire people from India on Freelancer or Craig List and pay them $100 to $250 a month and you keep the rest. $200 in India is a well-paid job as average pay is lower. You could hire a small team in India to be on your payroll. Your main job would be to market your business and find clients locally and online including Upwork and Freelance to take on projects. You then assign the projects to your team in India to perform. That is a win-win situation for everyone. You create jobs. You provide quality service to your clients and you make money by connecting supply and demand.
- Content writer: You can charge to write blog articles for companies and websites.
- 99designs: graphic design. You can learn how to be a graphic designer at Udemy.com and start offering your service.
- YouTube Channel: If you don’t like to be in-front of the camera, you can do ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) where you don’t talk. You record sound. People use ASMR videos to relax and sleep. You can record rain pouring and upload. I personally like rain and would like to listen to rain downpouring.
- Be a streamer: people make money with video games. If you like to play video game, you could play all day long and upload it on YouTube. People would watch it. There is a possibility to make millions with that.
- Podcast: it is more popular than television. People listen to it at work, in the car, on the go. You talk for one hour every day to make money online.

Web design, Affiliate marketing, and digital agency are profitable markets if you decide you go that route. The list below might require some minimum cost up front to start.
- Sell on Amazon:
- If you make handmade products you could sell on Amazon handmade.
- Amazon Arbitrage: Buy products on sale and resell on Amazon under the same brand product.
- You could private label an existing product you like and sell on Amazon.
- Sell on Etsy: You could sell your handmade products and digital downloads on Etsy
- Ecommerce website: look for products on Aliexpress and Alibaba. Select few products and purchase from China to sell on your website. When you have a success with a product you can ask the manufacturer to put your label on it.
- Dropshipping: You could purchase and install Aliexpress plugin on your ecommerce site and dropship. When someone purchases a product on your site, you send a notice to your dropshipper to fulfill the order and send it to the customer. It takes about 3 weeks for orders to reach customers when shipped from China.
- Private labeling: contact a manufacturer on Alibaba or from the United State to produce hundreds of units of a product with your label on them for you to sell on your site.
- Print on Demand: You could sell t-shirt, mug, bag, with your print on them by connecting your online store with a Print on Demand Company like Printfull when your customers’ orders are fulfilled.
